July 24 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds held off the Bakersfield Train Robbers 3-2, scoring in the second third and fifth innings to secure the victory. High Desert finished with 11 hits and one error while Bakersfield collected six hits and played error-free baseball.
High Desert took a 3-0 lead after five innings. Bakersfield scored once in the fifth and again in the eighth, but the Yardbirds held on for the one-run win. High Desert’s runs were supported by RBI from Ben Speas Slayton Vaughan and Oscar Larranaga.
Speas led the Yardbirds with three hits and one RBI. Dillon Fahr and Hector Morales each added two hits while D. Reddy scored twice and reached base three times with a hit and a walk. Bakersfield’s George Rodriguez went 2-for-2, and Ben Tingen had two hits. Andres Rios drove in Bakersfield’s only recorded RBI.
Colton Draney earned the win after allowing six hits and two earned runs in seven innings. He walked five and struck out five. Nico Mayoral and John Schulz each worked a scoreless inning in relief, with Schulz striking out one. Rodriguez took the loss for Bakersfield after surrendering three runs, including two earned, on 10 hits in 6.2 innings.
