August 7 2019 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 8-1 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield finished with nine hits and no errors while High Desert managed four hits and committed four errors.
Bakersfield took an early lead with one run in the first inning and broke the game open with four runs in the third. The Train Robbers added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before scoring again in the ninth. High Desert’s only run came in the sixth. Andres Rios went 2-for-3 with two walks two runs and two RBI, while Nyles Nygaard and Luis Alvarado each collected two hits. Deandre Smith and N. Etheridge also drove in runs for Bakersfield.
Manny Corpas earned the win with a complete-game effort, allowing four hits and one run over nine innings. He struck out 10 and walked four, throwing 88 strikes in 141 pitches. Jacob Rosales took the loss for High Desert after allowing eight hits and seven runs over 4.1 innings, with six strikeouts and two walks. John Kopicky added 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, and John Schulz completed a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts. The game was listed as protested with the notation “HD Top 1 BAK Bot 3.”
