High Desert Yardbirds Defeat California City Whiptails 17-6

June 15 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 17-6 in a seven-inning game, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to pull away. High Desert finished with 11 hits and committed no errors, while California City also collected 11 hits but made three errors.

Shane Brown powered the Yardbirds’ offense with two home runs, two hits, three runs and six RBIs. Ronnie Grant added a home run, a hit, three runs and an RBI, while Kent Blackstone homered and drove in three runs. Steven Longo also hit a home run, and Aaron Cook had two hits, including a double.

High Desert led 6-4 after five innings before California City scored twice in the sixth to make it 10-6. The Yardbirds answered with seven runs in the seventh. Scott Stetson led the Whiptails with three hits, two home runs and two RBIs, while Ryan Rodriguez added three hits and an RBI.

Kade Wagner earned the win after allowing 11 hits and six earned runs in six innings. He struck out six and walked three, and Avery Brandon completed the game with a scoreless seventh inning. Tomas Gutierrez took the loss for California City after allowing seven hits and 10 runs, eight earned, in 4.2 innings.
