Bakersfield Holds Off High Desert 10-6

July 5 2018 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 10-6 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield outhit High Desert 16-8 and built its lead with a four-run third inning and a two-run fifth. The Train Robbers added two runs in the eighth to secure the win after High Desert trimmed the margin with two runs in the sixth and three more across the eighth and ninth.

Brett Balkan led Bakersfield by going 4-for-5 with four runs and one RBI. Steve Pascaul collected four hits in five at-bats and drove in two runs, while Kyle Bonicki went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI. Nick Delgado added two hits, two walks and two RBI, and Rob Lain contributed two hits and an RBI.

Rob Lain earned the victory after allowing three runs two earned on six hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Jonathan Fleckenstein recorded the save with one strikeout in one-third of an inning. Travis Holm took the loss for High Desert after surrendering eight runs seven earned on 13 hits in five innings. Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson and Darrin Teson each had two hits for the Yardbirds, while Demetrius Moorer drove in two runs.
