Yardbirds Hold Off Amberjacks 9-6

July 20 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 9-6 in a game that featured 22 combined hits. High Desert collected 12 hits and scored twice in the first inning, four times in the fifth, once in the seventh and twice in the eighth. Monterey finished with 10 hits and scored two runs in the first, one in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson led the Yardbirds with two home runs and four RBI, while Eric Schneider added a home run and two RBI. Johnson-Wilcoxson scored three runs, and Shane Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. High Desert also received two hits apiece from Demetrius Moorer Aaron Cook and Steven Longo.

Montereys Cutter McDowell hit a two-run home run, and Thomas Prospero drove in two runs. Zack Jones had three hits and an RBI for the Amberjacks. Monterey rallied for three runs in the seventh to move within one run at 7-6, but the Yardbirds answered with two runs in the eighth to secure the victory.

Danny Diaz earned the win after allowing 10 hits and six runs five earned in 6.1 innings, with five walks and five strikeouts. Daniel Bodishbaugh worked 1.2 scoreless innings before Avery Brandon finished the game with a scoreless ninth for the save. Jordan Gray took the loss for Monterey after surrendering 11 hits and seven runs six earned in seven innings, striking out six and walking four.
