June 29 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Tucson Saguaros 11-8 at Cherry Field. High Desert scored four runs in the third inning, five in the seventh and two in the eighth to secure the victory, overcoming Tucson’s 13-11 advantage in hits. The Saguaros scored twice in the fifth, three times in the sixth, twice in the seventh and once in the ninth.
Oscar Larranaga led High Desert with three hits in five at-bats and drove in a run. Dillon Fahr had two hits, three runs and one RBI, while Anthony Ward and Danny Kerr each added two hits. Slayton Vaughan hit a solo home run and finished with two runs and one RBI. High Desert also received RBI from Daniel Gardner, Fahr, Vaughan, Kerr and Larranaga.
Tucson’s J. Garnett went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Caleb Wichman, Shawn Barrowdale and Patrick Clifford each had two hits and one RBI, while Daniel Diaz had two hits and one RBI. The Saguaros’ five home runs were hit by Wichman, Barrowdale, Garnett, Clifford and Daniel Barrett.
Austin Brown earned the win after pitching 0.2 scoreless innings and allowing two hits. Colton Draney started for High Desert and worked 5.1 innings with five runs allowed on five hits and four walks while striking out four. Evan Bell recorded the save with one inning of relief, allowing one run and striking out two. Michael Klein took the loss for Tucson after allowing five runs in six innings, with seven strikeouts.
