July 7 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated Wasco Reserve 18-13 in a high-scoring game. High Desert collected 13 hits and overcame 11 hits by Wasco, with the Yardbirds scoring in eight of the nine innings and finishing with one error compared with two for Wasco.
Wasco scored twice in the first inning and twice in the third to take an early lead, but High Desert answered with three runs in the fourth and erupted for seven in the sixth. The Yardbirds added five runs in the eighth to withstand Wasco’s late three-run rallies in the seventh eighth and ninth innings.
Slayton Vaughan led High Desert with four RBI, while D. Reddy scored three runs, hit a home run and drove in two. Dillon Fahr went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Daniel Gardner had two hits and an RBI. Wasco’s Luke Jackson and Austin Hoffman each homered and drove in two runs, while Tyree Davis and JJ Santana also produced two RBI apiece.
Harry Ferguson earned the win after allowing 11 hits and seven runs six earned in seven innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. Wasco’s Ken Williams was charged with the loss. Andrew Cartier was credited with the save, while High Desert’s Austin Brown worked a scoreless inning and struck out two.
