He lead the Yardbirds to a first round series victory against the Bakersfield Train Robbers by pitching 7 innings allowing only one run and striking out 7. The Yardbirds would sweep the Train Robbers and advance to face the Tucson Saguaros. The Yardbirds defeated the Saguaros. Culp started Game 1 of the Championship Series against the Roswell Invaders where he pitched 7 innings striking out 15 batters. This performance set an all time Pecos League Post Season Strikeout Record. He did this while walking 0 batters and allowing just three hits.

The High Desert Yardbirds shutout the Roswell Invaders 7-0 to win Game 1 of the Pecos League Championship Series. Cody Culp completely dominated the Invaders as he threw 7 scoreless innings with 15 strikeouts and 0 walks. Culp only allowed three hits and turned in one of the all time best playoff apperences in Pecos League History.

The Yardbirds had a very balanced offensive attack with 13 hits 11 of which were singles. Dominic Zaher, Dylan Kester and Yuta Okazaki all had two hits and two runs scored for the Yardbirds. Ronnie Grant went 3-5 for the Yardbirds. Shane Brown and Blake Butcher had two hits.

For the Invaders Ty Geary took the loss going six innings allowing 2 runs. Alex Dandridge pitched 1-1/3 inning allowing 5 runs and 5 hits. Kyle Perez pitched 2/3 of an inning and Ryan Calby pitched an inning. Joey Miller had two hits for the Invaders.

"Culp was best pitcher I have seen in the league this year. He had a fastball with late life that was exploding. We will be back tommorow." says Invaders manager Bryan Kloppe

The Invaders host the Yardbirds for Game 2 of the playoffs Tuesday Night at 7PM at Joe Bauman.

Chance Sharp announced as Interim High Desert Yardbirds Manager

The High Desert Yardbirds are pleas

The High Desert Yardbirds are pleased to announce the appointment of Chance Sharp as on- field manager for the remainder of the 2017 season. Chance was promoted to Manager after serving as an assistant and pitching coach for the first half of the Yardbird"s season. Chance is from Yuma, AZ, graduating from Yuma High School before moving on to Salem International University, New Mexico Highlands. Chance got his professional baseball start with the Garden City Wind before moving back west to assist in coaching the inaugural season of the High Desert Yardbirds. Filling out the coaching staff is assistant coach Ron Scott and player-coach Travon Jackson.

The High Desert Yardbirds and Pecos League want to thank outgoing manager Jack Humphrey for his service with the Yardbirds in their inaugural season.

The Yardbirds regular season ends July 29 with their sights set on a likely post season. GO YARDBIRDS!

The Yardbirds won the game 9-8 in front of a large gathering for a Spring Training Game in Adelanto Stadium. Each team threw 8 pitchers and saw their players in a lineup for the first time. "People were really happy to have a baseball team back here. The Yardbirds and Amberjacks learned something about the ballclubs today. They had Crazy Chris going in the stands and it was great." says Justin Thompson field manager of Monterey Amberjacks.

The Amberjacks have another Spring Training Game in California City on May 21 before opening the season in Bakersfield on May 25

The High Desert Yardbirds is pleased to announce that "Crazy" Chris Ackerman, the Voice of the High Desert Mavericks has joined our organization as announcer for our inaugural season.

As well as his history announcing for the Mavericks, Chris is also the host and on-air talent of "Friday Night Lights" on CBS Sports Radio KRAK Sports 910am in the Victor Valley, as well as the emcee for the last 6 years at the Town of Apple Valley 4th of July Freedom Festival.

Town of Apple Valley Event Coordinator Julie Gilmer, says, "Chris has become the voice of Apple Valleys Freedom Festival! He fills the air with energy, excitement and ties our event happenings together. I can count on him to professionally handle any situation that is thrown his way without skipping a beat. Crowds always respond excitedly to Crazy Chris!"

Added to that Chris has been announcing Speedway and Flat Track Motorcycle Racing for 9 years and currently is the full time track announcer for Perris Raceway, as well as all motorcycle races at Ventura Raceway and Santa Maria Raceway throughout the year, including the AMA National Speedway Series.

Team USA Speedway World Cup Co-Manager Steve Evans says, "Chris Ackerman is in my opinion the best announcer in American Speedway.
