The Yardbirds would sweep the Train Robbers and advance to face the Tucson Saguaros. The Yardbirds defeated the Saguaros. Culp started Game 1 of the Championship Series against the Roswell Invaders where he pitched 7 innings striking out 15 batters. This performance set an all time Pecos League Post Season Strikeout Record. He did this while walking 0 batters and allowing just three hits.

August 8 2017 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Roswell Invaders 5-2 at Joe Bauman Park. High Desert scored in the second fourth and sixth innings to finish with five runs on eight hits while Roswell had two runs on nine hits. The Invaders committed six errors in the game.

Blake Butcher led the Yardbirds with two hits including a double and scored twice. Shane Brown hit a home run and drove in a run while Ronnie Grant and Donald Glover each added an RBI. High Desert took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the fourth inning then added two more in the sixth. Roswell scored once in the fifth and sixth innings with Bobby Webb homering and driving in two runs.

Jordan Norton earned the win after allowing one earned run on six hits in five innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Zach Williams recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning that included three strikeouts. Mike Scimanico took the loss for Roswell despite allowing only one earned run in six innings; he surrendered six hits and struck out five. Lance Fairchild and Austin Goss combined for three scoreless relief innings for the Invaders.

High Desert scored twice in the first inning, added three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to pull away. The Yardbirds finished with one error, while Roswell committed three.

Ronnie Grant led High Desert with three hits, including three doubles. Dominic Zaher went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, while Shane Brown and Blake Butcher each drove in two runs. Dylan Kester added two hits, two runs and one RBI, and Yuta Okazaki scored twice. Roswell collected four hits, with J. Miller recording two doubles.

August 5 2017 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Tucson Saguaros 4-3 after scoring all four of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings. High Desert collected 11 hits, including two doubles from Blake Butcher and one from Patrick Jones, while Tucson finished with 10 hits. The Saguaros scored twice in the seventh and once in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.

Butcher went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Yardbirds. Yuta Okazaki added two hits and two RBIs, and Gregory Turner contributed a hit and an RBI. Tucson’s Logan Coughlin went 2-for-4 with a double and scored once, while Kevin Baron drove in two runs and pinch-hitter David Kimbrough III added an RBI.

Turner earned the win after allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks over six innings. High Desert scored twice in the sixth, added a run in the seventh and another in the eighth to finish with 16 hits. Tucson scored its lone run in the sixth and totaled six hits.

Dominic Zaher, Blake Butcher and Patrick Jones each collected three hits for the Yardbirds. Zaher, Butcher and Jones also drove in one run apiece, while pinch-hitter Shane Brown added a run-scoring hit. Ronnie Grant went 2-for-5 and scored once. Tucson’s Thomas McKenna had two hits, and Nicholas Vitale supplied the Saguaros’ only RBI.

Jordan Norton earned the win after allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five scoreless innings. Jalen Byrd surrendered one run in the sixth before Zak Wallner worked two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Ronnie Grant led the Yardbirds offense by going 5-for-5 with a home run two doubles listed? Actually box score credits one double, one home run, three runs and four RBI. Dominic Zaher and Donald Glover each added three hits, while Shane Brown contributed a hit, three runs, two RBI and two walks. Blane Swift drove in a run and Blake Butcher added two RBI.

High Desert built a 4-0 lead through three innings before Bakersfield scored all four of its runs in the fifth. The Yardbirds answered with four runs in the sixth and added two in the seventh, then scored once in each of the final two innings to pull away.

High Desert broke through for one run in the first inning and added three in the third before Monterey answered with four runs in the fourth. The Yardbirds regained control with a four-run sixth inning and held Monterey scoreless over the final five innings. Ronnie Grant went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Dominic Zaher, Blane Swift, Patrick Jones and pinch-hitter Giovanni Prado each drove in a run.

Chance Sharp announced as Interim High Desert Yardbirds Manager

The High Desert Yardbirds are pleas

The High Desert Yardbirds are pleased to announce the appointment of Chance Sharp as on- field manager for the remainder of the 2017 season. Chance was promoted to Manager after serving as an assistant and pitching coach for the first half of the Yardbird"s season. Chance is from Yuma, AZ, graduating from Yuma High School before moving on to Salem International University, New Mexico Highlands. Chance got his professional baseball start with the Garden City Wind before moving back west to assist in coaching the inaugural season of the High Desert Yardbirds. Filling out the coaching staff is assistant coach Ron Scott and player-coach Travon Jackson.

The High Desert Yardbirds and Pecos League want to thank outgoing manager Jack Humphrey for his service with the Yardbirds in their inaugural season.

The Yardbirds regular season ends July 29 with their sights set on a likely post season. GO YARDBIRDS!

May 30 2017 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 7-2, collecting 12 hits in the victory. Bakersfield scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take control early. The Train Robbers also scored once in the fifth and once in the eighth, while High Desert scored in the fifth and eighth innings.

Willie Ethington led Bakersfield with three hits in four at-bats and drove in a run. Nick Vehlewald added two hits and scored once, while J. Anderson had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Kyle Ulandy, Eric Schneider and Christopher Ervin also recorded RBIs for the Train Robbers.

May 29 2017 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 18-7 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield collected 15 hits and overcame a seven-run performance by High Desert, which finished with 10 hits. The Train Robbers opened with one run in the first inning and added three in the second before breaking the game open with three runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, seven in the seventh and three in the eighth.

Jay Stout led Bakersfield by going 3-for-5 with three runs and a triple. Rupert Watson went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs, while Nick Vehlewald added three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Willie Ethington scored three times and drove in two runs, and Austin Hoffman contributed two hits and two RBIs. Kyle Ulanday reached base three times with three walks and scored twice.

High Desert opened with three runs in the first inning, added one in the second, three in the sixth, one in the eighth and five in the ninth. California City answered with three runs in the second and one in the fourth but was held scoreless over the final five innings.

Shane Sharkey led the Yardbirds with three hits and an RBI. J. Tasis had two hits and two RBIs and homered, while Dillon Clift also hit a home run and drove in a run. Shane Brown, Dominic Zaher and Kellen Marruffo each recorded three RBIs for High Desert. California City managed six hits, with Jason Wilcoxson and Giovanni Prado collecting two apiece. Austin Marcellus and Prado each drove in two runs.

Tom Fazzini earned the win after allowing no hits and no runs in two innings with one walk and four strikeouts. The Yardbirds won the game 9-8 in front of a large gathering for a Spring Training Game in Adelanto Stadium. Each team threw 8 pitchers and saw their players in a lineup for the first time. "People were really happy to have a baseball team back here. The Yardbirds and Amberjacks learned something about the ballclubs today. They had Crazy Chris going in the stands and it was great." says Justin Thompson field manager of Monterey Amberjacks.

The High Desert Yardbirds is pleased to announce that "Crazy" Chris Ackerman, the Voice of the High Desert Mavericks has joined our organization as announcer for our inaugural season.

As well as his history announcing for the Mavericks, Chris is also the host and on-air talent of "Friday Night Lights" on CBS Sports Radio KRAK Sports 910am in the Victor Valley, as well as the emcee for the last 6 years at the Town of Apple Valley 4th of July Freedom Festival.

Town of Apple Valley Event Coordinator Julie Gilmer, says, "Chris has become the voice of Apple Valleys Freedom Festival! He fills the air with energy, excitement and ties our event happenings together. I can count on him to professionally handle any situation that is thrown his way without skipping a beat. Crowds always respond excitedly to Crazy Chris!"

Added to that Chris has been announcing Speedway and Flat Track Motorcycle Racing for 9 years and currently is the full time track announcer for Perris Raceway, as well as all motorcycle races at Ventura Raceway and Santa Maria Raceway throughout the year, including the AMA National Speedway Series.
